CrossFit CU

Karl Geissler

I spent 10 years pursuing a professional track and field coaching career, and have been blessed to be introduced to many training theories and methods.  I was introduced to CF in the fall of 2005 by a long time friend of mine who was looking into some alternatives to his program for a BCS D1 institution.  I did my first Fran at a certification out in Golden, CO.  I puked, and I was hooked.  I was a young father, and had moved away from coaching to pursue a career opportunity.  I liked the multi-faceted approached, and it worked better into my growing life obligations.  My wife eventually started joining me in CF activities, and our little house in Urbana was set up (she did the engineering for our outdoor pull-up bar).  In 2007, we moved to Champaign and had child number 2.  Our search for an outlet led us to joining a “big box” gym, where one day of doing a WOD, a young man came up to me to ask if I was doing CrossFit.  That was Sky, and after a few months of missing each other, we eventually hooked up and this whole thing took off.

It is humbling to think about that chance meeting leading to all of this, and meeting all the people who keep wanting to grow and improve their fitness.  Keep going strong, and puke washes up easily.  The lifetime benefits outweigh it all!
