Foodie Friday : What’s in my spice rack?

January 20, 2012   Allyson   No comments

One of the fun things about Paleo cooking is that you have lots of opportunities to try out new spices and flavors! Who knew that I’d like coriander so much?  Or that the main flavoring in tacos is cumin? I didn’t… But now I do! So today, here’s everything that’s in our spice rack, and I’ll make a note of the ones we use a LOT so you can make sure they’re in yours too!

Most frequently used spices:

Sea Salt (coarse and fine)
Black Pepper
Cinnamon
Oregano
Garlic Salt and Garlic Powder
Onion Salt and Onion Powder
Chili Powder
Ground Cayenne Red Pepper
Basil
Baking Soda
Vanilla

Less common, but I still use each of these at least every other week:

Dill weed
Marjoram
Crushed Red Pepper
Ground Coriander
Paprika
Rosemary
Thyme
Allspice
Bay leaves
Cumin
Nutmeg
Sage
Cloves
Dry Mustard
Celery seed
Poppy seed
Ginger
Pumpkin Pie Spice
Parsley
Cream of Tartar
Baking Powder

Spices can be expensive, but if you go down to Beachy’s Amish grocery store in Arthur you can find ridiculously low prices on even unusual spices… and when you buy the more common ones at Walmart or another grocery store, buy the big container because you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll use it up – especially making things like pumpkin chili!
